Arsenal have reached an agreement with Mesut Ozil over a new contract, according to reports.

The Gunners and the German have been locked in contract negotiations since before the end of the season, with Ozil’s current deal expiring next summer.

He is thought to have rejected at least one contract offer from the club, but now appears to have settled on a deal worth £280,000 a week.

It was initially reported that Ozil, like teammate Alexis Sanchez, wanted closer to £350,000 to stay at the Emirates Stadium, but The Sun claim he is ‘prepared’ to settle for a lower figure.

Ozil’s decision to sign could be due to the fact that he ‘does not have a serious offer from another major club’, with only Fenerbahce and Besiktas thought to be seriously interested in his services.

Arsenal will now turn their attentions to persuading Alexis Sanchez to follow suit and agree extended terms, with his contract also running out next summer.
